A Possible Link between Turbulence and Plasma Heating

چکیده

Numerical simulations and experimental results have shown that the formation of current sheets in space plasmas can be associated with enhanced vorticity. Also, generation such structures is strong plasma heating. Here, we compare four-point measurements terrestrial magnetosheath turbulence from Magnetospheric Multiscale mission flow vorticity magnetic field curlometer versus their corresponding one-point proxies PVI(V) PVI(B) based on Partial Variance Increments (PVI) method. We show are sufficiently precise identifying not only generic features vortices statistically, but also appearance groups The method has been further applied to region turbulent sheath an interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) observed at L1 by WIND spacecraft. observe heating larger (blobs), which so far considered literature data analysis. blobs represent extended spatial regions activity regional correlations between occurrence conditioned currents vorticity, same time correlated temperatures. This mechanism substantially different vicinity ICME shock, where beta strongly fluctuating there no proposed describes a new pathway for linking turbulence, it relevant situ observations when single spacecraft available.

A Possible Link Between Pyriproxyfen and Microcephaly

The Zika virus has been the primary suspect in the large increase in incidence of microcephaly in 2015-6 in Brazil. While evidence for Zika being the cause of some of the cases is strong, its role as the primary cause of the large number of cases in Brazil has not been confirmed. Recently, the disparity between the incidences in different geographic locations has led to questions about the viru...

Intermittent Dissipation and Heating in 3D Kinetic Plasma Turbulence.

High resolution, fully kinetic, three dimensional (3D) simulation of collisionless plasma turbulence shows the development of turbulence characterized by sheetlike current density structures spanning a range of scales. The nonlinear evolution is initialized with a long wavelength isotropic spectrum of fluctuations having polarizations transverse to an imposed mean magnetic field. We present evi...

Plasma Aβ: A Possible Missing Link Between Alzheimer Disease and Diabetes

Currently, there are more than 30 million dementia patients worldwide (1). More than half of dementia is caused by Alzheimer disease (AD), which consists of both familial and sporadic forms. Familial AD is caused by mutations in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) (2) and presenilin genes (3). Both mutations cause overproduction of amyloid-b (Ab), particularly its longer form, Ab42, which is mo...

Strong ion-sound parametric turbulence and anomalous anisotropic plasma heating in helicon plasma sources

Experimentally observed anisotropic ion heating in helicon plasma sources may result from the interaction of ions with ion-sound turbulence. The ion-sound turbulence develops due to excitation of the short scale, kinetic, parametric ion-sound instability. From the quasilinear equation for the ion distribution function, which includes the induced scattering of ion-sound waves by ions, the turbul...
